BriggsAmasco Maintenance carried out a full roof refurbishment to safeguard the long-term function of a rehabilitation centre.
The work was carried out at The Bridges, Hull. The 12-step residential rehabilitation centre provides full-time ‘world-class’ support for people suffering from drug and alcohol addiction. The facility is backed by committed Trust and Foundation donors, as well as corporate supporters.
Urgent roof refurbishment was required to enable the centre’s crucial services to continue uninterrupted. Sewell Maintenance Services selected BriggsAmasco Maintenance for the project, which involved the careful removal of the existing felt roof and installing Sika® Sikalastic®-625 N, a high-performance, liquid-applied polyurethane waterproofing membrane.
Prior to the replacement membrane’s installation, BriggsAmasco Maintenance teams cleaned down the rehabilitation centre’s roof surface, which covered a 70m2 area. The cold-applied waterproofing process included an initial liquid-applied coat, followed by a layer of glass fibre mat reinforcement. A second liquid-applied coat provided the system’s seamless, waterproof seal.
The impetus was on BriggsAmasco Maintenance to not only complete the refurbishment to the highest-possible specification, time was of the essence to ensure the roof’s rapid completion to allow interior building works to begin.
To achieve the client’s strict three-week deadline, BriggsAmasco Maintenance installers needed to overcome three potential challenges. Firstly, ongoing dialogue with additional onsite trades was crucial to avoiding work schedules clashing and initiating delays. Furthermore, waterproofing teams needed to accommodate complex pipework details. The refurbishment took place in a live environment, with the centre remaining open to clients. Therefore, installers needed to remain extra vigilant to health and safety standards to uphold public welfare.
The BriggsAmasco Maintenance team’s waterproofing skills and diligence ensured each project challenge was met. The rehabilitation centre was equipped with a smart, seamless waterproof roof within the agreed three-week deadline. For the client’s added peace of mind, the replacement roof came with a 15-year product warranty.
BriggsAmasco Maintenance’s excellent performance on the Bridges refurbishment project elicited fulsome praise from the organisation’s trustees. Comments made mention of the BriggsAmasco team’s excellent project management, and how they had gone the ‘extra mile’ to ensure a successful outcome.
In summing up BriggsAmasco Maintenance’s performance, one trustee said: “You guys have done a wonderful job. Disruption to the site was kept to a minimum. I can only say a big thank you.”
BriggsAmasco Maintenance was delighted to have played a significant role in securing the Bridges rehabilitation centre building’s long-term structural integrity. It will allow the essential facility to continue its community support for the foreseeable future and, hopefully, beyond.
